Camp Fire Songs

Published by:

It is true that there are several songs that seem to be campfire standards. Here are some camp fire song book gems that you may or may not be familiar with. They are excellent songs to include in your campfire singalong.

•    Home on the Range: Home on the Range is often considered the anthem of the Old West. I picture a group of cowboys or pioneers sitting around a campfire singing this song. It would have had to happen after the 1870s, because that is when it was written. A doctor, Brewster M. Higley, wrote the words. It was originally a poem called “My Western Home.” It was first published in December of 1873 in Kansas under the title “Oh, Give Me a Home Where the Buffalo Roam.” Higley later had a friend named Dan Kelley write music to go with the words. The song became popular and was sung by cowboys, pioneers and just about everybody knew the song. In 1947 it became the official state song of Kansas. When you sing this song, it brings into your mind a vision of what it must have been like in the old west; prairies of tall grass; deer, antelope, buffalo and other animals wandering; starry nights; clear blue skies during the day. Can you think of a more peaceful scene? When life gets hectic from work, family and other activities, this is a good simple song to sing to get away from it all, even if just for 30 seconds.

•    O Susannah: I would consider this another traditional camp fire song. It was originally written by Stephen Foster. He wrote both the lyrics and the music in 1847. It became popular very fast. Just a couple of years later, when the Forty-Niners thronged to San Francisco, they picked it up and it became a kind of official song of the California gold rush. They sang the original lyrics, but they made up other verses of their own. One of the most popular alternate verses goes as follows: I soon shall be in Frisco and there I’ll look around. And when I see the gold lumps there, I’ll pick them off the ground. I’ll scrape the mountains clean, my boys, I’ll drain the rivers dry. A pocketful of rocks bring home, So, brothers don’t you cry. This is a fun song to sing uptempo. It’s an easy song for guitar as well as banjo. I personally like the banjo on this song. Maybe it’s because it talks about the banjo in the song.

•    Old Dan Tucker: This is an old minstrel song from the mid 1840s. Like most minstrel songs, it was originally supposed to be a boasting song about a rough and ready black man. It eventually was meant to portray a mythical wild frontiersman that tall tales could be told about. There are hundreds of verses about Old Dan Tucker; I have included just a couple in The Great American Camp Fire Song Book.

•    Let the Sun Shine Forever: This song is not American at all, but Russian. It is very simple, with only 4 lines repeated over and over. When I have done it with children, I like to teach the Russian lyrics. The first 5 syllables of each line are exactly the same: Pust seg da bud yet, pronounced Poost seg dah bood yet. The last word of each line is as follows: 1)Son se, 2)Nye be, 3)Ma ma, 4) bood oh yah. On the fourth line replace bood yet with bood oh. I hope this makes sense to you. I have heard this song done both fast and slow. I have also heard the melody used in a beautiful choral piece by Z. Randall Stroope. The piece is called Inscription of Hope. It’s about the hope that helped many survive during the holocaust. Around a campfire, I would do the upbeat, fast version.

•    Shenandoah: This probably originated as a river shanty in the original 1800s. It was popular first among sailors, and then spread from there, up and down the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers. We don’t know for sure what it’s original meaning was. Some say it was about a traveling man in love with an Indian chiefs daughter, telling the chief he intends to take her with him to the west. Others interpret it as a pioneer’s longing for his home in the Shenandoah River Valley of Virginia. Whatever it’s original intent, it has a beautiful melody. Around a camp fire, it can be an effective song, if you want a subdued, soft mood. Otherwise, you probably should sing something else.

•    Sippin’ Cider Through a Straw: I could not find any background information about this song. We don’t really know who wrote it or when. I have heard that the sipping straw was invented in 1813, so it was probably written after that. My guess is that it was written in 20th century. Two things make this a fun and easy song. First, it’s fun to sing with a lisp. Second, it’s an echo song, so whoever is leading the song needs to know the words pretty good. That makes it easy for everyone else; all they have to do is echo.

I hope you have fun with these six camp fire songs. You can find them all in The Great American Camp Fire Song Book.

Quotes about moving on and cute quotes

Published by:

Quotes About Moving Onhas allowed me to know who I am and to be present in all that I do. I take this forward in my work and in my personal relationships. Cute Quotes is a powerful program and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to move on with their life

If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life.

If you want your life to be a magnificent story, then begin by realizing that you are the author and everyday you have the opportunity to write a new page.

Quotes about moving on - But let there be spaces in your togetherness and let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Love one another but make not a bond of love: let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.

Cute quotes – You are responsible for your life. You can’t keep blaming somebody else for your dysfunction. Life is really about moving on

When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been opened for us.

Love one another but make not a bond of love. Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.

Quotes about moving on - Have no fear of moving into the unknown. Simply step out fearlessly knowing that I am with you, therefore no harm can befall you; all is very, very well. Do this in complete faith and confidence.

Improve your business, your life, your relationships, your finances and your health. When you do the whole world improves.

Whatever you want in life, start today. Not tomorrow – today. Let it be a small beginning – a tiny beginning. Your happiness depends on starting today – every day.

Take a second out to think about this: in your life you search and search for the right person for you. Every time you break up with someone you get one step closer to that person. You should look at moving on as getting closer to meeting the one

Cute quotes – I always tell my kids if you lay down, people will step over you. But if you keep scrambling, if you keep going, someone will always, always give you a hand. Always. But you got to keep dancing, you got to keep your feet moving.

Love Songs For Wedding

Published by:

Love is an irresistible feeling and an incredible experience too. A person in love is lost in his own world and his joy knows no bounds.

In such an ecstatic state of mind, it is only but natural for him to compose songs, praising love and giving vent to his jubilation.

From time immemorial, human life is associated with music and song. There is a song for every occasion, whether it is happy or otherwise.

A love song clearly reflects the author’s feelings, especially when it is accompanied by the appropriate melodious music. Factors like melody, smoothness, and pleasant composition are indispensable in a love song. A love song is sweet to hear and soothes the listener’s soul.

Love songs vary according to the culture and social environment in which they are composed. Some songs are good when accompanied by light music. Nevertheless, there are some love songs that are sung as pop or rock music.

Some love songs are melodious, while others are beautifully written in a flowery language. Listening to a love song calmly can stir anyone’s soul and rejuvenate him. Never mind the failures and unfulfilled dreams in love; there is a love song to soothe you and refresh your spirits.

A passage from Jessica Simpson’s love song, titled “Angels”:

And through it all he

offers me protection

a lot of love and affection

Whether I’m right or wrong

and down the waterfall

Wherever it may take me

I know that life won’t break me

When I come to call

he won’t forsake me

I’m loving angels instead

Andy Gibb writes in “An Everlasting love”:

Take me out of the cold, give me what I’ve hungered for

If it’s the pleasure of taking

My heart that you need, then it only makes me

love you more

I was yours before

The stars were born and you were mine

I could have saved you all the pain you knew

And I won’t make you cry

And maybe an everlasting love can try

Famous Ukulele Songs

Published by:

The great thing about the ukulele these days is that a lot of popular songs that we’re originally played on this great instrument are being covered on it–you can find uke videos all over the internet for most popular songs today. But for those interested, here is a list of famous ukulele songs that are well known for being played on a uke, and ones that a lot of people will probably be asking you to play once they find out you have the instrument.

Tonight You Belong To Me is probably going to be on every list you find. This song was written by Billy Rose and Lee David in 1926, but that’s not how most people know it. It became popular in the movie “The Jerk” where Steve Martin and Bernadette Peters sing along. Since that time there have of course been many covers.

Another older song that keeps getting covered today is Ukulele Lady, originally by Gus Kahn and Richard Whiting in 1925. You can find popular covers by Kermit the Frog, or Better Middler.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow is one of my favorite famous ukulele songs. It was originally done by Harold Arlen and Yip Harbury in 1939, but the version that really made is a uke song is by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole. If you don’t think you’re familiar with the uke version, you probably heard it in the movie 50 First Dates.

There is no uke played in Jason Mraz’s song “I’m Yours”, but people cover this song on the uke constantly, making this a popular uke tune. This is a great example of how a song that’s more popular today is helping making the uke a more common instrument.

Hey, Soul Sister by Train is another more current popular option. This is one of the very popular, current famous ukulele songs that gets covered a great deal online and that your friends will probably ask you to play shortly after finding out you have the instrument, so it’s worth learning now.

Once you decide to learn to play the ukulele it’s pretty easy to get started! You can pick up the pace by learning songs you already know and love, like with Lady Gaga ukulele covers.

Emotional Profit

Published by:

There’s a concept. Too often we neglect the emotional profit that can be and NEEDS to be gotten from practice. And there is more good news that I’ll get to later.

All of us, you and me, and our colleagues became dentists not so much for the income (although that is darn important, especially now) but because of the desire to help others, to make a difference. Had we wanted to be in a business rather than a profession, we could have gone off and done that.

But no, we went through the struggle and difficulties of becoming dentists. It wasn’t easy. Now that we are dentists, it still isn’t, although in a different way that when we were in the process of becoming dentists. Private practice brings its own challenges. This is about looking at those challenges in a different way.

We have all had patients who were so good to work with, appreciative and helpful to us as we delivered care. These patients are a treasure. They “make our day.” It is these patients that make us glad we became dentists. They are so notable because there are too few of them, wouldn’t you agree? Would you like to have more of them? If you said yes, keep reading.

There are all sorts of profit. Of course, there is the financial one. We all want that. And I say we all want emotional profit, too. It is one of the prime reasons we became dentists.

What is emotional profit? It is the not quite quantifiable sense of having made a contribution that matters. It feels better when that contribution is recognized. In fact, it feels so good that many of us give away our services just to get that feeling of making a difference, of being appreciated.

One would think that our patients/clients would naturally recognize their role as the recipient of out expertise, care, skill, judgment and goodwill to give out the warm “fuzzies”  that are the emotional lifeblood of being a professional. Alas, they do not. A small percentage get it, whether by luck, prior parenting or some good fortune. The vast majority do not.

This leaves you in a conundrum. You know that you do your best care for those who show their appreciation for what you do. This is human nature. You also know that there is nothing quite like a patient that makes you feel good about your services. Right?

What can you do rather than hope for the emotional and financial profit?

HOPING IS NOT A STRATEGY THAT WORKS.

What if there is another way?

Hint: there is.

Just as you take certain actions to ensure that you get paid and make a profit financially, there is a like system for ensuring you get paid emotionally for the care you give.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have that emotional pay system in place?

Let me make this statement too. This also means that you are getting your financial rewards, too. In fact, they go together. (Of course, we all provide pro bono work from time to time. It is part of the duty we have. To whom much is given, much is expected.)

How do you ensure that you get your psychic pay, the emotional pay that that we all desire? The first thing to know is that this does not mean charging less or giving dentistry away. It means getting the financial and emotional rewards of practice.

So how?

Stop waiting for it to happen and make it happen. (Hey, this applies to lots of things, huh!)

Waiting for something good to happen just isn’t viable long term.

While it is nice to win the lottery, waiting and hoping for that to happen is NOT a way to a successful life.

So how does one ensure that one gets the emotional pay that is due?

1.Give It First

A wood stove requires wood and a fire to give out heat. Yet most folks are waiting by the stove expecting it to put out heat without the requisite contributions of wood and a match to get it going.

Appreciation and admiration are similar. You give out to get back.

There is not so surprising news here. Giving out that emotional pay the other wayfirstdoes warm and nurture those that receive it when done genuinely. Most people are so lacking in appreciation and admiration that they have forgotten how to give it out. The good news is that you can start that appreciation and admiration fire for them and eventually they’ll start giving it back. Some take longer than others so don’t expect a direct expression back right away. Some are so chilled from a prior lack of appreciation and admiration heat that they have a difficult time giving it out for quite awhile. But the vast majority catch the fire and get it going pretty quickly.

Thanksgiving is certainly a national version of “Let’s Appreciate.” But on a daily basis, the average homo sapiens somehow misses the value of originating the words that people so need. Now some need them more than others. Most dentists are introverts so they need less. (But it sure feels good when one gets it, huh!) Most team members are extroverts and need more.( suggestion: feed them the words they so need and just watch how they respond!)

You need not wait any longer, hoping for someone else to recognize, appreciate and admire you. You can become an Appreciation Philanthropist immediately. It costs you nothing. Moreover, your giving has its own princely reward. The giving of appreciation, admiration and recognition generates its own fire within you. It just feels good to help others feel good about themselves. You can make your own warm glow!

The miracle of appreciation, admiration, recognition and love is that it expands – the more you give, the more you get.

Thank you for all that you do to help and make a difference.

Best,

Charley

Love Quotes Boyfriend Scarf

Published by:

Fashionable women all around the world have fallen in love with Love Quotes Scarves in a very short time. The line rose to fame in late 2007/early 2008 when it was seen literally wrapped around the neck of every starlet in Hollywood. Celebrity women like Lauren Conrad, Fergie, Hilary Duff, Jessica Alba, Rachel Bilson and so many others helped put Love Quotes scarves on the map. And most of these celebrities have the scarves in multiple colors.

So what’s so great about Love Quotes? These scarves are made of a high quality Italian linen, Italian linen 50% and Viscose 50%. They’re light and airy like gauze, but surprisingly warm when wrapped. And the scarves have hand knitted fringe. Each scarf also comes with an inspirational love quote and 10% off all proceeds from every scarf sold goes to international childrens charities. The scarves come in a wide variety of colors.

For Spring/Summer 2009 the line isn’t only unveiling new colors but also a brand new cut. It’s called the Love Quotes Boyfriend Scarf. This scarf is cut about 10 inches narrower than regular love quotes scarves, and the fringe is about 1 inch shorter. The dimensions for the scarf is 27″ x 71″. The Boyfriend Scarves are ideally summer scarves; the narrow cut makes them much cooler to wear in the hot weather.

For right now, the Love Quotes Boyfriend Scarves come in a limited range of colors, about 12 overall, most of which are shades that are brand new to the line. Two of the standout shades for spring/summer are Azalea and Mykonos. Azalea is a bold, hot pink with a touch of purple to it (which makes it different from the other hot pinks LQ has done in the past, like Cosmopolitan). And Mykonos is a deep shade of dusty blue, sort of like a brighter, lighter shade of navy. Both shades are unique and will certainly get compliments.

Bouquet is another new color that the Love Quotes Boyfriend Scarves come in. It’s a light pink, which is a good alternative to Azalea, and looks great with khaki and bold colored outfits. There’s also New Earth, which is an earthy, greyish beige. This one is a nice neutral to have on hand. Olive Grove is yet another new addition to the line. The shade is bright green, like the color of leaves, and it really pops up against white and denim. Of course, the Boyfriend Scarves also come in classic colors like Meditation (black).

Be sure to make one or two of these scarves a part of your wardrobe this season. Find the new Love Quotes Boyfriend Scarves at OohlaLuxe.com.

Emotional Dependency Vs Emotional Freedom

Published by:

WHAT IS EMOTIONAL DEPENDENCY?

Lydia’s relationship with her husband, Andrew, was falling apart. Andrew had moved out, stating that he could no longer tolerate Lydia’s neediness and constant pull on him to make her feel loved and secure.

Now that they were separated, Lydia’s emotional dependency was getting even worse. She was deeply addicted to Andrew making her feel better, if only through a brief text message.

Lydia believed that her feelings of safety, worth, and lovability had to come from someone else. She took no emotional responsibility – no responsibility for what she was telling herself and how she was treating herself that were causing her pain and panic.

It became clear to Lydia that her panic was being caused by her own self-abandonment, not by Andrew abandoning her. She was constantly abandoning her inner child by judging herself, ignoring the feelings resulting from her self-judgments, and then handing her inner child to Andrew to take care of. When she couldn’t reach Andrew, she would collapse into tears and sooth herself with TV and food. She constantly felt panicked, not because Andrew was not there for her, but because she had never developed an inner loving adult capable of taking loving care of herself.

As a result of her self-abandonment, Lydia was constantly emotionally needy and pulled on Andrew with her tears and anger. While she said she loved Andrew, her primary intent was to get love rather than to give and share love. Lydia was emotionally dependent.

WHAT IS EMOTIONAL FREEDOM?

We are emotionally free when:

1. We do not make others, the past, or circumstances responsible for our feelings – we do not see ourselves as victims. Instead, we take responsibility for causing our own suffering by noticing how we treat ourselves and what we tell ourselves, and we nurture ourselves through the grief, sorrow, and loneliness that come from painful life events, such as the death of a loved one.

2. We are not governed by our feelings. Our feelings guide us, but we are not led around by them. We recognize that our positive feelings of love, peace, and joy are letting us know that we are taking loving care of ourselves, and that our negative feelings of anger, fear, hurt, anxiety, depression, guilt, shame, and so on are letting us know that we are abandoning ourselves.

3. We do not collapse into our feelings, becoming our feelings. Instead, we are a witness of our feelings and learn from them and/or nurture them.

We are emotionally free when we learn from our feelings and take loving action in our own behalf to take responsibility for our painful feelings, and for our feelings of worth, lovability, safety and security.

RELATIONSHIPS AND EMOTIONAL RESPONSIBILITY

Relationships flounder when one or both partners are emotionally dependent on the other partner for their feelings of worth, lovability, safety, and security. When you abandon yourself and make your partner responsible for your pain and your self-worth, then you are stuck trying to have control over your partner taking care of you – doing for you what you need to be doing for yourself.

When you are not loving and valuing yourself, you do not have love to share with your partner. You are constantly trying to get love rather than share love. Trying to have control over getting the love that you need to be giving to yourself is what creates most relationship problems.

When each person in a relationship decides to learn how to take responsibility for their own feelings, they can then come together to learn, grow, play, and share love. This is much more fun than trying to get love!
